The American Association Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI) Latin American and Caribbean Division is pleased to announce a 3-month internship in Mexico. The Mexico internship will provide a law student or graduate the opportunity to work closely with leaders in both the United States and Mexico on legal reform efforts within Mexico. The intern will be based in the ABA ROLI office in Mexico City. The volunteer internship would begin in February 2012, with a duration of ten to twelve weeks.
The ABA ROLI’S Latin America and Caribbean Division supports legal reform efforts in Mexico, Ecuador, Panama, Guatemala, Belize, Haiti, El Salvador and Honduras, and has previously implemented programs in Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Brazil, and Paraguay. The program in Mexico focuses on (i) supporting law school faculty and private practitioners in their preparation for the country’s transition to the criminal accusatorial system, (ii) offering assistance to strengthening the legal education and legal profession sectors, in close conjunction with key law schools and bar associations of various regions of the country, and (iii) promoting judicial exchanges between Mexico and U.S. Judges.

Qualifications
Qualifications
- Current law student or graduate with J.D. or LL.M. from an ABA-accredited law school
- Native-level English and professionally fluent Spanish skills
- Experience with / knowledge of rule of law issues and legal reform issues in Latin America, with particular emphasis on criminal law or Mexico.
- Previous significant travel or residence in Latin America preferred.

Volunteer Position
This is a volunteer position. There is no salary or stipend. The intern will be responsible for his/her own living expenses, travel expenses and health insurance.
