The Center for Security Studies (CSS) at ETH Zurich (www.css.ethz.ch) specializes in research and teaching related to Swiss and international security policy. The CSS hosts a think tank of around 15-20 researchers who work on policy-relevant security issues. The CSS is currently seeking candidates for the following position:
The Head of the CSS Think Tank oversees daily operations, including:
  • Responsibility for the conceptual development of CSS's applied research activities (publications, conferences, consultancy);
  • Coordinating CSS's national and international consultancy work, including quality control;
  • Managing the approx. 15-20 staff members, in coordination with team leaders;
  • Representing the think tank externally and liaising with the public sector;
  • Independent engagement in research, lectures, and publications.



Qualifications


  • Degree in political science, history, or related field;
  • Proven expertise in security studies or strategic studies;
  • Several years of management experience in the area of academic or policy consultancy, preferably in a think tank;
  • Expertise/interest in Swiss foreign, security, and defense policy an advantage;
  • Excellent written and spoken German and English;
  • Autonomy, personal initiative, and teambuilding skills.

dTS is a strategic management consulting firm leading initiatives in social and economic development with a view to promoting equality and accountability. Our services in gender integration; training and capacity building; and monitoring and evaluation have been applied in a variety of sectors across 51 countries for USAID, MCC, and State.
dTS is recruiting a Senior Level M&E Specialist to support the work of the M&E Practice Unit, providing primarily home office technical support on M&E projects, as well as new business development activities (e.g., marketing, proposal development and recruitment), project management, and conducting other tasks as assigned.
M&E Technical Support (80%)
  • Review project deliverables: Review project deliverables to ensure compliance with client and home office expectations and standards.
  • Provide technical support to international M&E activities: Conduct technical analyses, technical writing, and occasionally participate as a technical expert on evaluation teams. The great majority of the work will be performed in the dTS home office, but there may occasionally be a need for short-term international travel. Assignments include project and Mission-level support in developing PMPs and work plans, and conducting mid-term, end of project, and impact evaluations.
  • Develop standards and guidelines for the M&E practice
Business Development (20%)
  • Proposal Development: Develop technical components on M&E proposals. Represent dTS at partner and client meetings.
  • Marketing: Represent dTS at conferences and other public events.



Qualifications


  • Masters in international development or related field with 10 years of professional experience with a minimum of 5 years experience in M&E and related technical applications. Ph.D. degree preferred.
  • Sector expertise and country experience preferred (indicate which sector(s) and countries).
  • Prior evaluation leadership required.
  • Experience working on USAID proposals and projects (required). Experience in other donor projects desirable.
  • Strong numeric analytic skills, with demonstrated experience using statistical software.
  • Strong writing skills. Candidate must provide copies of analytic reports primarily produced by the candidate.
  • Background in data analysis and ability to use statistical packages including SPSS.
  • Experienced with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, Word and Access, including knowledge of spreadsheets.
  • Strong communicator, both verbally and in writing.
  • Team oriented individual.

Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities
  • Manage the product lifecycle for bespoke intelligence products:Gather requirements; establish a collection plan; select appropriate analytical methodology; Q&A and finalize product for delivery.
  • Manage a team of intelligence analysts and ensure workload is adequately balanced amongst departmental resources
  • Coordinate efforts with iJET’s Regional Managers, Watch Operations Intelligence Analysts, and other Subject Matter Experts (SME)
  • Occasional travel



Qualifications


  • Master’s Degree in International Affairs, Political Science, Journalism, or Intelligence Studies, required
  • 8 years experience in a related field required
  • Significant exposure to multinational geopolitical events
  • Excellent analytical skills

Senior Technical Specialists, Jordan
We are currently seeking technical specialists for an upcoming five-year USAID project in Amman, Jordan, focused on competitiveness, business-enabling environment, workforce development, and access to credit in the ICT, biotech, and clean-technology sectors. The position is contingent upon ACDI/VOCA being awarded the program. In particular, we seek senior specialists in the following technical areas:
