Description

CSIS is home to the premier internship program in Washington, DC.  Each year, the Center hosts 230 talented interns.  These young minds contribute to the intellectual strength of the Center - stimulating the policy debates with their enterprising spirits and boundless imagination.
CSIS offers both full and part-time internships during the fall, spring and summer semesters for undergraduates, advanced students, and recent graduates who are interested in gaining practical experience in the public policy field.  Interns participate in a variety of activities that support individual programs, including research, writing, and project development.
In addition to working closely with individual programs and in-house scholars, our interns have an opportunity to participate in the Abshire-Inamori Leadership Academy (AILA).   The academy is designed to provide interns with experiential learning and networking opportunities that will help prepare them for a career in public service.  It provides a convening platform for interns to engage in policy debate, writing workshops and leadership building exercises.  One of the major thrusts of the program is to impart the values and leadership qualities that will define the next generation of leaders.
The majority of CSIS internships are unpaid; however, we do have a limited number of stipends that we award to applicants that have a demonstrated financial need.  These stipends come from generous donations received from supporters of CSIS.   The current level of donations do not fund the entire program, so CSIS effectively leverages the available funds to diversify the intern pool and benefit the most in need.  CSIS is committed to working towards fully funding this program and eliminating the financial hardship imposed by an unpaid internship in DC.
To learn more about CSIS internships and the Abshire-Inamori Leadership Academy, please visit http://www.csis.org/about/jobs_interns/ and http://www.csis.org/leadership/.
