Description
The Social Science Research Council (SSRC) is a not-for-profit organization devoted to the advancement of interdisciplinary research in the social sciences. It does this through a wide variety of workshops and conferences, fellowships and grants, summer training institutes, scholarly exchanges and publications.
The SSRC invites applications for the position of Program Assistant for international activities organized by the SSRC’s Migration, Environment and Health, Human Rights, and Dissertation Proposal Development Fellowship (DPDF) Programs. The goals of these activities are to strengthen interdisciplinary social science, create international scholarly networks, and to set research agendas in response to public concerns and policy debates. The DPDF Program pursues these goals by supporting humanities and social science graduate students to prepare dissertation research proposals within interdisciplinary fields of study.
DUTIES:
- Support the Migration, Environment and Health, Human Rights, and DPDF program staff with the administration and logistics of program activities.
- Serve as liaison to and communicate with participating senior and junior scholars.
- Assist in drafting meeting agendas, reports to funders, proposals, and program correspondence.
- Track budgets and expenses.
- Help to plan and organize meetings in both domestic and international settings.
- Help to edit and copyedit manuscripts for publications and negotiate copyright permissions.
- Create and maintain program websites and project files.
- Assist in publicity and outreach activities.
- Other duties and responsibilities, depending upon interest and capacity.
Annual salary is $28,000. Comprehensive benefits include health, dental and vision care; disability and life insurance; gym reimbursement; $1,500 annual tuition and/or student loan reimbursement; outstanding pension plan and tax savings programs; generous vacation and sick leave.

Qualifications
- Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Sciences degree required.
- Interest and background relevant to international migration, environment and health, human rights, and other interdisciplinary and international field of study.
- Experience with website and/or database management.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize daily activities to meet competing deadlines.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent writing and oral communication skills.
- International travel and foreign language skills (e.g. Chinese or French) could be helpful but not required.
