Description


The Social Science Research Council (SSRC) is a not-for-profit organization devoted to the advancement of interdisciplinary research in the social sciences.  It does this through a wide variety of workshops and conferences, fellowships and grants, summer training institutes, scholarly exchanges and publications.

The SSRC invites applications for a Program Assistant to work with the International Dissertation Research Fellowship (IDRF) program.  Funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the IDRF program is designed to support doctoral candidates in the humanities and social sciences seeking to conduct dissertation field research in all areas and regions of the world. With up to seventy-five fellowships awarded annually, the IDRF is one of the largest dissertation fellowship programs in the U.S.  For more information on the Council and its IDRF program, please visit our website: http://www.ssrc.org.

DUTIES:
  • Support IDRF staff with overall administration of the program.
  • Answer telephone and email inquiries from prospective applicants to SSRC fellowships.
  • Serve as primary contact for an assigned cohort of IDRF fellows, including regular correspondence and document collection.
  • Manage database and paper files for applicants, fellows, and contacts.
  • Provide administrative support for application review process.
  • Manage logistics and provide support for conferences, workshops, and meetings, both on- and off-site.
  • Process payment requests for fellows, vendors, and program partners.
  • Assist in production of advertising material.
  • Other duties and additional responsibilities and projects as directed, depending upon interest and capacity.
 
SALARY & BENEFITS:       
Annual salary will be commensurate with experience.  Comprehensive benefits include health, dental, vision, disability, life, and gym reimbursement; $1,500 annual tuition and/or student loan reimbursement; outstanding pension plan and tax savings programs; generous vacation and sick leave; and more.





Qualifications


  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Sciences degree required.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, database management and Internet applications.
  • Experience and/or familiarity with website or database development preferred.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize daily activities to meet competing deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills.
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.

Description


The Social Science Research Council (SSRC) is a not-for-profit organization devoted to the advancement of interdisciplinary research in the social sciences. The SSRC invites applications for the position of Program Assistant for international activities organized by the SSRC’s Migration, Environment and Health, Human Rights, and Dissertation Proposal Development Fellowship (DPDF) Programs.  The goals of these activities are to strengthen interdisciplinary social science, create international scholarly networks, and to set research agendas in response to public concerns and policy debates. The DPDF Program pursues these goals by supporting humanities and social science graduate students to prepare dissertation research proposals within interdisciplinary fields of study.

DUTIES:
  • Support the Migration, Environment and Health, Human Rights, and DPDF program staff with the administration and logistics of program activities.
  • Serve as liaison to and communicate with participating senior and junior scholars.
  • Assist in drafting meeting agendas, reports to funders, proposals, and program correspondence.
  • Track budgets and expenses.
  • Help to plan and organize meetings in both domestic and international settings.
  • Help to edit and copyedit manuscripts for publications and negotiate copyright permissions.
  • Create and maintain program websites and project files.
  • Assist in publicity and outreach activities.
  • Other duties and responsibilities, depending upon interest and capacity.
SALARY AND BENEFITS:
Annual salary is $28,000.  Comprehensive benefits include health, dental and vision care; disability and life insurance; gym reimbursement; $1,500 annual tuition and/or student loan reimbursement; outstanding pension plan and tax savings programs; generous vacation and sick leave.

Qualifications


  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Sciences degree required.
  • Interest and background relevant to international migration, environment and health, human rights, and other interdisciplinary and international field of study.
  • Experience with website and/or database management.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize daily activities to meet competing deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills.
  • International travel and foreign language skills (e.g. Chinese or French) could be helpful but not required.

The International Division of the National Center for State Courts (NCSC) is seeking expressions of interest for the position of Country Director in Port-au-Prince. The Country Director will manage an anticipated criminal justice training program to be funded by the U.S. Department of State. Qualified local candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
The Country Director will lead the implementation of a program that will equip justice sector actors with the necessary information, materials, and skills to process cases more efficiently, thereby reducing the number of persons in pre-trial detention. The applicant should be able to demonstrate a firm understanding of Haitian law (both current and pending), as well as the obstacles impeding the efficient process of persons in Haiti’s criminal justice system and in the administration of justice in Haiti generally.

CSIS seeks a security intern to support the China studies program. The Freeman Chair in China Studies is dedicated to delivering informed public policy debate, expert briefings, and strategic policy recommendations on greater China and East Asia. Key research areas as they relate to this internship include U.S.-China relations, China-North Korea relations, cross-Strait relations and confidence building measures, and U.S.-China-Taiwan relations. Responsibilities:
  • Assisting in research, writing and analysis for articles, conference reports, event summaries, grant proposals, and other such projects as dictated by program needs

Qualifications
