The Atlantic Council seeks a talented policy analyst and writer to assist in the expansion of a dynamic and rapidly evolving program on cross-national social and economic policy studies. The research assistant will prepare reports and funding proposals on a broad range of domestic and comparative social policy issues. Current topics include health policy, education policy, unemployment and labor force policy, immigration policy, and public/private partnerships. The project will take a cross-national approach to what have traditionally been considered domestic policy concerns in order to develop fresh thinking.
The successful candidate will have an entrepreneurial spirit, communicate effectively, and enjoy the fast pace of building a new enterprise. S/he will work closely with the program director and senior fellow to develop research and funding proposals for program activities. The position also involves assistance in the preparation and execution of cross-national policy conferences (see www.umdcipe.org), and other activities including: high-level speaker events; policy workshops and papers; and helping support a senior level advisory group of transatlantic economic and social policy business experts.
We are seeking demonstrated expertise in global economic and social affairs through class work and/or experience. The position requires a strong record of organizing programs and events, excellent administrative and communication skills, superior writing ability, and a proven aptitude for business and regulatory issues.
This position includes some international travel to organize and help conduct conferences outside the United States.
Job Responsibilities
- Program administration and development: Work with a senior fellow and the program director to develop programs, identify funding opportunities, write proposals, and develop high-impact dissemination strategies for work products. Maintain oversight of events, budget, and general program administration.
- Coverage of economic and social issues and related outreach: Substantive involvement in Atlantic Council website; write short articles/op-eds/policy statements; and develop outreach to other business groups, the policy community, and the public.
- Staff support for a high-level transatlantic advisory group and other programs: Liaise with Board members and other senior experts; identify relevant issues; develop follow-on activities; and organize events.
- Supervision: Train, mentor, and supervise GBE interns.
About the Program on Global Business and Economics
The Global Business and Economics Program is a policy center at the Atlantic Council that convenes business and government leaders from the United States and Europe to exchange ideas and design solutions to pressing global economic and financial challenges. Building upon and strengthening the already deep economic integration between Europe and the United States, the GBE program promotes transatlantic leadership in the global economy. Our aim is to identify areas for cooperation as well as convergence in policy in an effort to promote an open and mutually beneficial environment for transatlantic business, trade, and finance.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher (such as a Master’s in Public Policy).
- Strong writing and analytic skills.
- Experience writing funding proposals.
- HTML and web skills are a plus.
