Syncrude is looking for an energetic and enthusiastic Mechanical Engineering student to work at our world class Research Center in Edmonton, Alberta. This student will work with us on our equipment reliability program under the direct supervision of professional engineers. In the past, experience gained in this position has qualified for the APEGGA experience requirement. 
 
Activities may include:
  •  Assistance with testing and operating our pump and gearbox condition monitoring facilities in Edmonton, Alberta.
  •  Support on site field test programs at our Fort McMurray operation with other Research staff.  Equipment that we work with includes heavy  haulers, shovels, centrifuges, slurry pumps, gearboxes, conveyors and others.
  •  Installation and calibration of: Accelerometers, strain gauges, proximity sensors, LVDTs
  •  Perform Finite Element Analysis in support of failure analysis work.
  •  Data collection, analysis, report writing and presentation of results from our research activities.
  •  Literature review of current and past research activities and advancement in oil sands operation.
  •  Support a collaborative, innovative and team environment through good ideas and active participation.

Qualifications

 
  • Students must be enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering program (3rd year preferred)
  • Available for an 8 work term starting in January 2012
  • Strong technical abilities
  • Interest in working in a research and development environment
  • Good computer skills especially in MatLab, Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Strong commitment to teamwork and a win-win attitude
