Asian Legal Business is seeking its first Middle East Regional Editor/Senior Journalist to be responsible for coverage and source development for The Brief, a recently acquired publication. The Brief provides news and insight to give our readers the information they need to make intelligent business-of-law decisions. The Brief adds a critical dimension to the Thomson Reuters strategy to expand its legal market footprint in the Middle East, and to become more relevant, more often to more types of legal professionals.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES:
The Middle East Regional Editor/Senior Journalist is the senior editorial role in the Middle East. S/he is responsible for the quality and content for The Brief. S/he will work with the Executive Managing Editor to set the journalistic standards and provide a vision for, and administer the day-to-day editorial operations of, The Brief. As such, s/he will need a keen sense of the readership and how, when and why they rely on The Brief to accomplish their business-of-law objectives. Developing story ideas, writing spot news and lengthy features, editing, and developing contacts and sources are all critical objectives. S/he will need to collaborate and news plan with Reuters and source original content from and develop and manage relationships with third-party content contributors. This role also requires management capabilities, as we plan to grow the business across the Middle East. As such, s/he will be responsible for recruiting and supervising journalists.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or advanced degree in journalism, Communication Arts or equivalent related experience.
- Experience as an editor or senior editorial manager (preferably at a magazine).
- Expert knowledge of editorial operations, magazine traditions, journalistic values, understanding of marketing and capacity to plan and implement competitive business strategy.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, particularly in communications and diplomacy.
- Strong writing, editing and interviewing skills.
- Ability to write everything from spot news through to longer in-depth news and analysis stories
- Native-level English writing and speaking fluency.
- Arabic speaking, writing and reading highly regarded but not required.
