The Manoff Group, Inc., a firm with more than 40 years of experience in communications for development, is recruiting a full-time Knowledge Management and Communication Advisor for the Strengthening Partnerships, Results and Innovation in Nutrition Globally (SPRING) project, based in Arlington, Virginia.
SPRING is the U.S. Agency for International Development’s flagship nutrition project. It is being implemented to promote policies and evidence-based best practices in nutrition programming to scale-up and improve the impact of country-level nutrition programs, with particular emphasis on reaching vulnerable populations, including women, infants, and young children. This job offers an excellent opportunity to a well-qualified individual who would like a significant role on a team working with country programs and broader communities of practice in maternal and child nutrition to prevent maternal and child malnutrition.
Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Strategic Information Specialist, the Knowledge Management and Communication Advisor will be responsible for developing and executing a knowledge management and communication strategy that establishes SPRING’s identity as a global leader in managing knowledge, and developing and disseminating communications for nutrition. Among other duties, this will include:
  • Developing a global strategy for Knowledge Management that includes mechanisms for creating, distributing and sharing experiences, innovations, and best practices.
  • Adapting Knowledge Management strategies and activities to specific country programs or topic areas.
  • Providing leadership on targeted, innovative communication strategies for distinct audiences, such as donor agencies, host-country policy makers, and technical staff of agencies in multiple sectors. This will notably require creating and maintaining a knowledge portal.
  • Working with SPRING technical managers to address effective knowledge management, including: supporting communities of practice; identifying knowledge points in reports and other documentation to produce highlights, lessons and best practice guidance; developing case studies on critical issues; organizing meetings and other knowledge sharing events; conducting partner outreach; and using social media to direct target audiences to key resources and learning opportunities.
  • Managing the editing and appropriate branding of all project materials.
  • Managing writers and graphic consultants, as needed.
  • Working with senior management to produce annual work plans, as well as quarterly and annual reports.
  • Developing and pursuing opportunities with USAID, partners, and external organizations to collaborate on communication or knowledge management activities in order to leverage expertise and financial resources.



Qualifications


  • Advanced degree in communications, information science, journalism or marketing; or equivalent experience.
  • At least 8 years of progressively responsible experience in knowledge management and the management of communications operations; including at least five years of experience in international development and/or public health.  An understanding of international nutrition is a plus.
  • Experience working on USAID-supported projects strongly preferred.
  • Excellent analytical, writing and editorial skills required; particularly the ability to write clearly and engagingly on complex technical subjects.
  • A proven record of successful communication product development while adhering to deadlines.
  • Demonstrated experience working with and managing all types of media: print, web, social media, video, radio, websites, listservs, blogs, and others.
  • Proven skills in management and interpersonal relations, and the ability to work effectively in an environment which values both independence and collaboration, and where skills building of collaborators may be required.
  • English fluency is required; additional language proficiency in French, Spanish, and/or Portuguese is a plus.
  • Able to work in the US legally.
  • Able to travel internationally.

The Institute for the Study of War is seeking a motivated and experienced individual to work as a Development Assistant.
The Development Assistant is responsible for assisting the Development Department in developing, implementing, and monitoring ISW’s fundraising initiatives to enhance and promote the organization's funding base. The Assistant will be highly involved in prospect research and donor identification and will assist with the planning and coordination of cultivation events and activities. The Assistant will also assist in: authoring gift acknowledgments and ongoing communications to prospective and current donors; maintaining records and database information on prospective, past, and current donors; and assisting the Development Department with developing and implementing the strategic development plan.
 Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Process donations; prepare, and send acknowledgement letters.
  • Update and maintain records of donor mailings and benefits.
  • Maintain foundation, corporation, and individual donor files.
  • Assist with the planning and execution of cultivation and stewardship events.
  • Identify, conduct, assign, and maintain research on prospect individuals, corporations and foundations.
  • Assemble folders and materials in advance of events and meetings.
  • Maintain, update, and prepare regular reports and queries from donor database.
  • Assist with productions and distribution of direct mail campaigns, newsletters, eCampaigns, event invitations and other donor correspondence.
  • Assist in the drafting and editing of correspondence and marketing materials including acknowledgements, cover letters, eCampaigns, newsletters, direct mail, prospect folder materials, and annual reports.
  • Assist in the drafting and editing of proposals and reports to individuals, foundations, and corporations.
  • Attend regular trainings and educational courses to expand knowledge of development technology and fundraising techniques.
  • Participate in the formulation of ISW’s development strategy.



Qualifications


Motivated individuals with an interest in fundraising and/or marketing are encouraged to apply. The Institute for the Study of War seeks a Development Officer to identify, cultivate, solicit and manage a portfolio of donors and prospects who support ISW with annual and major gifts. In this role, the successful candidate will be the face of ISW for mid-level supporters. They will plan and execute cultivation events and mailings, and develop ongoing relationships with key individuals to help grow ISW’s pipeline for major gifts ($10,000+).

Must have experience with prospect pipeline processes in a Development environment; possess an understanding of ISW's mission; and have the capacity to share ISW’s core values with current and prospective donors. Position Summary
The Embattled NGO Assistance Fund (ENAF) provides civil society organizations with small grants for medical, legal, humanitarian and other emergencies.  Under the direction of the Senior Program Manager (SPM), the Program Associate will provide programmatic support to the Fund including finance, logistical, administrative, research, writing and data analysis assistance.
 
Some Duties and Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the preparation of reports, proposals, grants, press releases, and budgets as required
  • Liaise with State/DRL on vetting of cases and respond to queries from DRL
  • Review and develop applications to the Fund under the supervision of the SPM, which includes evaluating applications, working with referring organizations or individuals, finding sources of information on the case and country involved, entering cases into database, providing translation if necessary, and maintaining information on cases, with a focus on those from Eurasia, the MENA regionor Asia/South/Southeast Asia
  • Monitor impact of grants and maintain the Martus database for his/her own cases and others as assigned
  • Assist with developing and maintaining in-country and regional networks of human rights defenders, civil society organizations, experts, and regional partners
  • Organize and facilitate monthly check-in with relevant Freedom House regional team
  • Conduct regular (twice monthly) domestic outreach specific to Eurasia, MENA or Asia/South/Southeast Asiaregion on behalf of the Fund
  • Track developments related to human rights in Eurasia, MENA or Asia/South/Southeast Asiaand monitor the region’s news sources on a daily basis
  • Arrange team meetings and travel, prepare weekly reports, HRD Fund Map updates and Staff briefing summaries

Qualifications


Minimum
  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, international relations, or related field
  • Minimum six months related experience or combination of education, training and experience
  • Strong ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to communicate effectively in Russian and/or Arabic strongly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of human rights principles and mechanisms, and understanding of democracy promotion
  • Academic and/or field experience, ideally in Eurasia, MENA or Asia/South/Southeast Asia region
