Global Zero is hiring a U.S. Campaign Director to coordinate and execute all aspects of the Global Zero public campaign across the United States. We’re looking for an entrepreneurial campaigner, familiar with both online and offline organizing tools and methods, to join our dynamic and international team.
The U.S. Campaign Director reports to the Director of Strategy and Campaigns, and supervises campaign staff in the U.S. This position will be responsible for building the Global Zero movement in the U.S. through elite-level engagement, media outreach and grassroots organizing.
Among other things, the U.S. Campaign Director will:
  • Work with the Global Zero Campaign Director to strategize and execute successful campaigns to grow the Global Zero movement in the U.S.;
  • Coordinate with the Global Zero Program Director on track II diplomacy initiatives and high-profile events involving political, military, business, civic and faith leaders;
  • Draft and edit web content and e-blasts, and conduct extensive research for upcoming campaigns;
  • Build partnerships with government officials, celebrities and NGOs in the U.S.;
  • Manage U.S. campaign/organizing staff and refine strategies for U.S. student activism;
  • Oversee the creation/refresh of organizing resources and campaign materials; and
  • Interface with Global Zero signatories and the media.
The setup:
  • Competitive salary;

  • Frequent travel within the U.S. and abroad (especially between DC/NYC); and
  • Flexible and occasionally intense hours, including some evenings and weekends, to accommodate a team across multiple time zones and a rigorous campaign.



Qualifications


The ideal candidate will:
  • Have 3-6 years of professional experience, preferably pertaining to advocacy campaigns;
  • Be a self-starter and a strategic thinker with a creative edge, who is socially conscious, organized, detail-oriented and able to manage complex projects;
  • Have a sophisticated understanding of U.S. foreign policy and international affairs;
  • Be a highly organized project manager and skilled communicator who will work collaboratively and effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team;
  • Be a nimble utility player who is comfortable with everything from “big picture” management to on-the-ground heavy lifting, and understands that no task is too big or too small;
  • Have strong tech skills (please note all technical experience and general computer competencies in your resume and/or cover letter); and
  • Be able to excel in a young, highly caffeinated campaign office with loose structure and emerging organizational systems.

Silkworm Production Expert, Afghanistan
ACDI/VOCA is seeking a short-term Silkworm Production Expert for its subaward role on the USAID-funded Strengthening Incentives Driving Economic Alternatives for the North, East and West (IDEA-NEW) program based in Mazar-i-Sharif, Afghanistan. The Silkworm Production Expert will oversee and lead activities focusing on analyzing, evaluating and recommending a comprehensive enhancement of the silkworm production at the local level in northern Afghanistan.
Responsibilities:
  • Assess the methods of silkworm rearing currently being practiced and make recommendations to improve production;
  • Evaluate the silkworm stock currently being produced by the Livestock Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL) and make recommendations for the introduction of improved varieties and where they can be accessed.
  • Make recommendations for the propagation of mulberry trees for silk production, including the identification of appropriate varieties and identification of locations where they can be sourced from.
  • Introduce improved methods of processing silk cocoons at village level, identifying appropriate equipment if necessary;
  • Carry out training of trainers in silkworm rearing and cocoon processing for implementing partner and government staff;
  • Analyze local market and discuss with ACDI/VOCA staff ways to improve linkages between silk producers and various market actors.



Qualifications


  • Master’s degree in business, agribusiness and marketing, agricultural economics or another related field is desired.
  • Must be fluent in English; knowledge of Pashto and/or Dari Persian is preferred.  
  • Experience in value chain assessment and development.
  • Previous experience silkworm production.
  • Experience working with the private sector, producer organizations and smallholder producers along the silk-worm value chain.

The Group of Fifty seeks a highly competent Program Coodinator.  This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual with strong writing, editing and business experience to develop his/her career by joining a close knit team and learning all facets of the operations of an efficient, international not for profit organization.

Chief of Party, Sierra Leone

We are currently seeking a Chief of Party for the ongoing Promoting Agriculture, Governance and Environment (PAGE) program in Sierra Leone. The purpose of the program is to improve the economic development of four of the country’s most underserved districts by working to increase agricultural productivity, while also supporting sustainable natural resources management and promoting transparent and participatory democratic governance. The Chief of Party is responsible for the overall leadership and the planning, implementation, and monitoring of the program, including maintaining effective working relationships, overseeing recruitment, contracting and supervision of locally hired staff, and managing the human, physical and financial resources of the program.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the project team, directing the work of all professional and administrative staff. Develop and direct implementation of work plans, and oversee and appoint appropriate personnel for financial management.
  • Manage stakeholder meetings and share concepts, lessons learned and project progress with the government of Sierra Leone, USAID, and program stakeholders.
  • Inform ACDI/VOCA headquarters about potential extensions for the PAGE program in 2012. Identify new business opportunities and ensure that appropriate PAGE staff assists with information-gathering and development of new ACDI/VOCA program activities in Sierra Leone and the region.
  • Oversee financial accounting, monitoring and evaluation, procurement and other administrative requirements in accordance with PAGE policy manual.
  • Conduct in-country procurement of program vehicles and equipment as needed. Provide guidance to ACDI/VOCA Compliance Officer on specifications of equipment and vehicles to be purchased in Sierra Leone and obtain written approval from the USAID Agreement Officer when required.





Qualifications


Qualifications:
  • University degree in related field (e.g., project management, international development, international business, economics, etc.) is required; master’s degree is highly desirable.
  • At least 10 years of experience working overseas on similar donor-funded projects in the region, preferably in Sierra Leone.
  • Familiarity with USAID procedures and policies is required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in field work, project management and monitoring and evaluation methods is required.
  • Experience supervising and leading teams and monitoring staff performance.
  • Fluency in English is required.
