Summary:
The Grants Manager reports to the Director of Corporate & Government Relations. She/he is responsible for securing foundation, government and corporate grants, leading prospect research, and managing renewals and stewardship of historic donors.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Writes and edits proposals, reports, articles and other correspondence for private and public funding sources and persuasively communicates the organization’s mission, programs, impact and potential to possible funders.
- Maintains calendar and records for renewals, prospects, and related special projects for a diverse portfolio of philanthropic partners.
- Researches, manages and oversees portfolios of prospective foundation and corporate donors including funding trends and analysis.
- Communicates with potential and active funders including but not limited to: responding to requests for information, submitting official letters of inquiry and thanking funders for grants.
- Plans and coordinates grant development including research, data collection, writing, budget and supporting materials.
- Represents the organization and serves as spokesperson at site visits, when applicable.
- Designs and implements a strategy to re-engage lapsed foundation donors and secure increased support from new donors.
- Works closely with executive level and program staff on all aspects of grants coordination and execution.
- Interacts with corporate, foundation and government funding representatives to facilitate grant stewardship, maintain current institutional support, and build donor confidence
- Develops “best language” templates, general support proposal language, presentation decks, and other communication pieces.
- Updates records in Raiser’s Edge database and provides detailed notes on interaction with donors.
- Coordinates reporting and follow-up to donors and provides additional information as required by funding sources according to grant makers’ guidelines and deadlines.
- Collaborates with program and finance staff to shape proposals and report to funders.
- Provides guidance, coaching and supervision for assigned interns.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- MBA/MPA or Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 3 years experience in grant proposal writing, donor stewardship and fund development.
- Demonstrated experience managing a donor portfolio including active prospecting, cultivation, grant writing, closing gifts and stewardship.
- Exceptionally strong written, oral, and analytical skills.
- Ability to articulate outcomes and interpret and present program and financial information in compelling, active language.
- Ability to manage relationships and effectively communicate with a wide variety of constituencies.
- Extremely organized with superb attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to solve problems independently and effectively, meet concurrent deadlines, organize time and priorities, and work well as a dedicated member of a team.
- Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Raiser’s Edge, Foundation Center databases and web-based research. Facility with creating well-formatted, professional documents in Word and PowerPoint.
