The International Center for Transitional Justice (ICTJ) is an international non-profit organization specializing in the field of transitional justice. ICTJ works to help societies in transition address legacies of massive human rights violations and build civic trust in state institutions as protectors of human rights.

 ICTJ seeks a Communications Associate to manage the daily work of the communications unit under the direction of the Communication Director. The Communications Associate will help to implement and monitor the global and local communications strategies and coordinate the editing, design and production of ICTJ’s print and web publications. This position will be based at ICTJ’s headquarters in New York.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. PROGRAM:
  1. Manage special projects, such as, campaigns, branding initiatives, and multimedia initiatives.
  2. Assist program staff with planning and costing communications projects.
  3. Scrutinize ICTJ materials for compliance with branding and style requirements.
  4. Manage press inquiries in the absence of communications director.
  5. Draft, edit, and manage approvals for press releases with program staff, legal counsel, and program office in the absence of communications director.
  6. Supervise day-to-day work of communications consultants.
  7. Train staff and interns on relevant procedures and skills.
  8. Manage consultant and vendor relationships.
  9. Recruit and supervise communications interns in coordination with communications director and other relevant staff.
  10. Develop, update, and manage ICTJ's media database and distribution lists.

  1. PUBLICATIONS:
  1. Manage the editing, design, production, and approvals of ICTJ publications, in multiple languages for multiple platforms, in coordination with program staff, communications director, legal counsel, program office, and outside vendors.
  2. Edit, design and layout publications as requested by the communications director.
  3. Research, caption, and negotiate licensing for images; organize photographic services when required.
  4. Maintain a weekly publications forecast.
  5. Negotiate and manage print production processes; manage vendor relationships.
  6. Work closely with outside copy editors to finalize texts according to ICTJ style guidelines.  Work with outside graphic designers on publication design and layout.
  7. Work with ICTJ units to ensure publications are effectively disseminated.
  8. Assist with publication launch arrangements, the production of related materials, and assist with related media work.

  1. ADMINISTRATIVE:
  1. Assist with the development of funding proposals and budgets.
  2. Prepare and oversee grant and program budgets and prepare narrative and financial reports for funders.
  3. Develop and utilize a comprehensive financial tracking system for the program to provide regular budget review information to the Director.
  4.  Submit in a timely manner expense reports, reimbursement claims, preparation of requests for payments to consultants and other vendors.



Qualifications


Education:  Bachelor’s degree.
Experience:  Minimum of four years professional experience in communications.
Related Skills or Knowledge: 
  1. Superior ability to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  2. Demonstrated project management skills.
  3. Experience with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Drupal, social media, and experience working with style guides.
  4. Experience liaising with media through new and old channels.
  5. Strong negotiating and interpersonal skills plus experience working collaboratively as part of a small team. 
  6. Strong writing, editing and design skills.
  7. High level of professionalism and attention to detail. 
  8. Fluency in oral and written English is required. Fluency in Spanish, French or Arabic is advantageous.
  9. Interest in human rights issues and world affairs is highly desirable. Experience with Dreamweaver and basic HTML coding a plus. 

Requirements:
Ability to travel nationally and internationally.
