Deputy Project Director, Liberia
We are currently seeking a Deputy Project Director for the ongoing, USAID-funded Agriculture for Children’s Empowerment (ACE) Program in Liberia. ACE is a four-year, $2.7 million program with the objective of reducing child vulnerability through household income growth in Liberia. ACE provides valuable learning on agricultural best practices for integrating the poor into competitive value chains.
Responsibilities:
- Under the direction of the Project Director, support project staff and partners in day-to-day planning, design and operations to ensure effective project implementation.
- Support the Project Director in all aspects of program management.
- Liaise and coordinate with various stakeholders and partners involved in project implementation, and participate in committees or teams as appropriate.
- Provide technical leadership on issues related to agricultural production in the rice, bitter ball, pepper and high value vegetable value chains.
- Identify issues, risks and improvements related to program implementation in a timely manner and suggest appropriate program adjustments.
- Support development and editing of activity reports and implementation plans.
- Ensure required M&E systems are developed and implemented in a timely fashion.
- Support Project Director in personnel management, including approval of staff recruitment, salary increases, staff development, and performance evaluation.
- Act as liaison with administrative team to ensure adequate administrative support is provided to project staff, including procurement, staff travel, and related financial management.
- Communicate project progress to HQ on a regular basis.
- Participate in the promotion of project successes and materials.
Qualifications
- Knowledge and experience related to agribusiness, livelihoods development, and child vulnerability.
- Familiarity with USAID procedures and policies.
- Established track record of achieving results within difficult working environments.
- Proven experience designing and implementing M&E systems (including quantitative, qualitative and participatory approaches).
- Willingness to undertake regular field visits and interact with different stakeholders.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience.
- University degree in related field is required; masters degree preferred.
- Prior working experience in Liberia or West Africa strongly preferred.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English required.
