Description


The Institute for the Study of War seeks a Development Officer to identify, cultivate, solicit and manage a portfolio of donors and prospects who support ISW with annual and major gifts. In this role, the successful candidate will be the face of ISW for mid-level supporters. They will plan and execute cultivation events and mailings, and develop ongoing relationships with key individuals to help grow ISW’s pipeline for major gifts ($10,000+).
 Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Work directly with the Development Director to formulate ISW’s development strategy.
  • Manage a portfolio of individual prospects and donors who support ISW’s mission.
  • Meet regularly with prospects and donors in discovery calls and cultivation engagements.
  • Engage with ISW’s Board of Directors and Advancement Committee to involve them in ISW’s fundraising efforts.
  • Help manage the execution and planning of ISW’s development-focused events, in collaboration with the Development team.
  • Assist the Development Associate and Development Director with drafting collateral, correspondence, and proposals.
  • Accompany ISW’s President on mid-level prospect and donor engagement calls.



Qualifications


A Bachelor’s degree with 2-4 years of relevant professional fundraising experience in portfolio/relationship management is required. Must have experience with prospect pipeline processes in a Development environment; possess an understanding of ISW's mission; and have the capacity to share ISW’s core values with current and prospective donors. Must be a team player who can also work independently, and must have excellent oral and written communication skills.  This position offers a unique opportunity for an individual with excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and an interest in international affairs and fundraising  to advance their career.
